hi bloggers......
London:  In what may help save thousands of lives worldwide, scientists have launched a project which they claim could predict exactly when and where earthquakes will happen.
A team of British and Russian scientists has signed an agreement to work together on the project in Moscow.

The TwinSat project involves the launch of two satellites -- one of which the scientists say is about the size of an old TV set and the other smaller than a shoebox -- which will orbit the Earth a few hundred miles apart, 'The Independent' reported.

The two linked satellites will monitor zones with high seismic and volcanic activity, such as Iceland and the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia. Data from the satellites will be collated with data from the ground as the scientists try to understand what natural warnings are given prior to earthquakes.

"As stress builds up in the Earth prior to an earthquake, subtle electromagnetic signals are released that can be read from the upper atmosphere.
"We want to try to work out how these signals differ from all the other things that are present at any given time," said Prof Alan Smith of University College London who launched the project.

Prof Vitaly Chmyrev of the Institute of Physics of the Earth in Moscow, one of the Russian partners, said the possibilities for progress in quake research were exciting and the project will "benefit both Russian and British science in addition to making the Earth a safer place".

Microsoft Office Web Apps has been launched in India. Web Apps is Microsoft's equivalent of Google Docs, which lets users create, access, edit, and share documents from the Office suite, which includes Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote, from any PC equipped with an Internet connection. The best part is that the service is absolutely free.
"Office Web Apps are a key piece of Microsoft's overall cloud strategy. Features like ease of sharing and high document fidelity make Office Web Apps a powerful enabler of productivity in the cloud for modern information workers and consumers alike. Moreover, this tool helps students collaborate on their school and college projects in a seamless way," said Sanjay Manchanda, Director, Microsoft Business Division.
All you need to run Office Web Apps is a Windows Live ID on SkyDrive or Hotmail to access Microsoft Office Web Apps from any of the supported web browsers like Internet Explorer 7 or later, Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or later, Google Chrome and Safari 4. The documents ported to and fro retain their style, formatting, embedded objects like images, and other meta objects. Office Web Apps is a boon for creating and maintaining collaborative documents, and features interoperability between the PC and Mac platforms.

hi bloggers....
A new iPhone app called Ugly Meter claims to be able to tell you how ugly a person is. This $0.99 app available in the App Store lets you take a photo of a person, then analyzes its contours in real-time and displays a score out of ten. Since this is Ugly Meter, the score is about ugliness, the higher the score, the more ugly the person in the photo is.Once accepted into the app, the picture can be lined up by the user using the on-screen grids to get the best results. Once done, the app delivers its verdict. As was found out, more often than not, it is rather vitriolic than pleasant.
The Daily Mail tried out this app on various celebrities and the results are rather amusing. The first two to go were X-Factor judges Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue.
Danni scored an almost perfect score of ugliness with the app delivering a scathing verdict,  "You're so ugly, you could make a glass eye cry!"
Cheryl Cole managed to score 4.2, which is not really bad because of what                  Danni scored. The app remarked,  "Wow you're ugly, is your doctor a vet?"
If you are a fan of the curvaceous TV star Christina Hendricks from Mad Men, you would probably get enraged at the app delivering this verdict "You're so ugly, you could model for death threats!"
But not all were vilified by the app. Angelina Jolie scored a very low score of ugliness and got praised by the app  "You're so hot that you make the sun jealous"
