hi bloggers.....
At a time when the world is grappling with energy crisis and large-scale carbon emission, two students of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) have designed a software which helps computer users to adopt power management and save unnecessary wastage of electricity.                Designed by Om Prakash H and Srikanth R, BillionWatt Power Manager helps users to automatically put their computers and laptops on either sleep or hibernation mode, when not in use. A good amount of energy could be saved and data of computer users remains safe. Moreover, large amount of carbon dioxide emission could be also prevented. The duo has also created a website, http://www.billionwatt.com, where the free-of-cost software is available.
The IIMB students took about six months to come up with the software. “Call it our ignorance or laziness, most often, we don’t switch off our computers as we go out for our tea, coffee, snacks or lunch breaks. Moreover, it has been observed that many employees go home from office without shutting down their systems. Keeping these things in mind, we have designed the software to prevent wastage of electricity,” said Prakash, a second year student of post-graduate programme (PGP) in management.
“The software has the ability to automatically reduce power consumption of the system, based on the software settings and also highlight the amount of savings in power and reduction in carbon emissions the user has managed to achieve since the software was installed,” said Srikanth, also a second year PGP student at IIMB.
